Minutes of the June Meeting

• Date, Time and Place: Meeting not called to order at 3:30 PM Monday, 11 June 2000 in The Usual Room of MIT's Building 66 in Cambridge, MA

• In Attendance: (no sign in sheet, since the meeting wasn't called to order) Drea Brandford, Glen Goodwin, Elka Tovah Menkes, Skip Morris, Tom Murphy, and Brendan Quinn.

  In the absence of both the President and the Vice President, the Treasurer was set to chair the meeting.

• ProxiesSeveral proxies were submitted, none were used, since the meeting was not called to order.

  Be it known, that with only 6 people showing up to the meeting, and failing to meet quorum by two people, the Chair of the Meeting saw no point in calling the Meeting to order; no business (except for the text of a motion submitted for printing in MENTOR) was conducted.
  

  The Motion, copied verbatim from a handout at the meeting:

  Motion to modify Arisia Convention Policy to set Art Show rates:
  

  Summary: 1. Reduce income slightly (by about $300-$400), Art Show fees/commissions/etc currently about $2800, expenses about $2K.
  2. Reduce maxium rate per panel/table. Current highest rate is twice the Boskone rate for same space. Maxium rate only paid by a few artists. New proposal makes maximum rate same as Boskone.
  3. Current rate structure is not working as intended. Modify to provide the starting artists a break, while not overcharging the successful pro.
  4. Provide incentive to get past Art GOH's to return (they're not currently) by giving them a space credit for the first panel.
  5. Make the sales commission cancel out the cheap initial space fee (and the credit for AGOH's) if they sell a reasonable amount of art.
  6. Change Print Shop fee structure to discourage artist from sending in one copy each of a large number of prints.
  7. Pickup the cost of return mailing of Mail-In art to save hassle.
  8. Set the mail-in fee to be the same as Boskone's (currently higher).
  9. Allow the Art Show director to set policy of sales-after-closeout since everyone seems to have a different opinion of this.
  10. Don't address insurance on artwork since I'm still looking in to it.

  Moved: To Modify Arisia Convention Policy to add the below. The Arisia Clerk is directed to modify numbering to add the below in the appropriate place in the policies.
  

  1. The standard unit of Art Show panel space shall be four foot by four foot in size. The standard unit of Art Show table space shall be as close to a thirty-inch by six-foot table as can be provided.
  2. The cost for a panel or table space shall be one-dollar-twenty-five-cents ($1.25) for the first quarter unit of space, two-dollars-fifty-cents ($2.50) for the next quarter unit of space, and five-dollars ($5.00) for each quarter unit of space after that. The cost for floor space for free standing art shall be the same as for table space.
  3. The Art Show shall charge a ten percent commission on sales, capped at twenty-five dollars ($25.00) per unit of space prorated, then reduced by the amount of panel and table space fees paid.
  4. Prior Arisia Art Guest of Honors shall be given a credit towards the first unit of panel or table space and the mail-in fee to encourage them to return.
  5. The Print Shop shall charge a two-dollar ($2.00) entry fee for each unique print entered for sale. A second copy of each print may be entered at no additional charge. Any additional copies of prints shall be charged a fee of fifty cents ($0.50) per additional print beyond the first two.
  6. There shall be a ten-dollar ($10.00) service charge to process mail-in art.
  7. Arisia shall pickup the cost of returning mail-in art at UPS insured ground shipping rates.
  8. Sales-after-closeout may be allowed at the discretion of the Con Chair, or if not specified by the Con Chair then by the Art Show director.

Subscription to Mentor of ARISIA is included with Corporate Membership to ARISIA, Incorporated. Membership runs from September 1st to August 31st and costs $24.00. Dues are pro-rated on a monthly basis for members joining during the year.

Come one, come all!

Directions to the ARISIA Corporate Offices and Storage Facility

Located in Somerville, MA, Arisia's storage facility is on Windsor Place, a short block off Webster Ave.

From Union Square, take the first left after crossing the railroad bridge; from Cambridge, take the last right before crossing the railroad bridge. [See Map Below]

In any case, you will be turning onto Columbia St; the landmark is the Royal White Laundry at the corner. After turning onto Columbia, bear gently left onto Windsor Place at the stop sign. On the right (opposite DHL Worldwide Express) is a brick warehouse-type building. Our entrance is the rightmost door, which has a big sign for the Diak Corporation. You might be able to find parking in front of the building, but do not block any of the doors or loading docks. Do not park at DHL during their business hours! You can probably park safely at RCN.

Enter the first door in the building. Go upstairs to the second floor. Wander down the hallway until you see Arisians. Enter here.

To get to Arisia Storage by Public Transit:

Take the #85 from Kendall Square T on the Red Line. Get off at Columbia Street (the street on the left is labeled Tremont Street & there is a large commercial laundry business on your right -- you may have to walk back about 50 feet from the bus stop) . *Walk up Columbia Street through the next intersection and follow the street around to the left. You will come to a large brick building on the right (just across from DHL).

You could also take any bus to Union Square, Somerville, (or at least any bus that normally runs there:), and then walk over the railroad bridge on Prospect to Webster Ave. Make a left onto Webster and a left onto Columbia (it's the first street on the left, btw). Follow from * above.

You could also take the #69 from Harvard Square or from Lechmere T to Webster/Columbia (the (it changes names at Cambridge Street, which is the street that the #69 runs down:). Walk up Webster between the Shell station and the cemetery/headstone sales place to Columbia Court (it will be on your right). Follow from * above.

You could take the T to Central and walk up Prospect until you get to Webster Ave. (noticeable by the USave car/truck rental place on your right at that intersection). Take a right onto Webster and then make a left onto Columbia Court (the first left, I think). Follow from * above.

The map and directions don't tell you that the storage facility is a couple of blocks from Inman Square.

You can take the 69 bus, which runs along Cambridge St., from Harvard Square or Lechmere to Columbia St. You can also take the 83 and 91 buses, which go up Prospect St., from Central Square to Cambridge St.

The fine print
The "Special Emergency Meeting" of the corporation, listed as occurring on 31 June 2000 did not actually occur. There is no motion to dissolve the corporation. Your Clerk has, in his frustration and without the knowledge or consent of the person who first spoke aloud the concept of Dissolving the Corporation, decided to try to prompt interest in the Corporation with this fictitious report. Your Clerk shall be present at the next General meeting to accept your collective scolding.
