Minutes of the Impromptu EBoard Meeting 30 December 1999

This impromptu meeting of the EBoard was called to order at 10:20 PM. All members waived right to notice, since they were all present for the ConCom Meeting anyway.

Present are Noel Rosenberg, Cris Shuldiner, Skip Morris, Tom Murphy, Paul Selkirk, Nicholas Shectman, and Elka Tovah Menkes.

The only item of business before the EBoard was a suggestion to allow negotiation with the Hotel to release our use of the Terrace Room in return for the removal of the "Inflator" clause (the clause that raises room rates each year) from the contract. A formal vote was taken, and the result was 3 to 1 in favor of such negotiation.

It was then suggested to adjourn the meeting, and tonight it required a formal vote, which went two for, one against, and one abstention.

The meeting adjourned at 10:27 PM

Minutes of the January Meeting

Date, Time and Place: This meeting of the membership of ARISIA Incorporated was called to order at 4:37 PM Sunday, 16 January 2000 in the Stanbro Room of the Boston Park Plaza Hotel.
In Attendance: Drea Brandford, Marshall Ellis, Glen Goodwin, Buzz Harris, Walter Kahn, Elka Tovah Menkes, Skip Morris, Tom Murphy, Brendan Quinn, Noel Rosenberg, Cris Shuldiner, Rachel Silverman, Carsten Turner (but he didn't sign in), Andrea Lyon (guest), J.D. Moore (guest), Melina Schlotthauer (guest).
Proxies Rachel Silverman to Brendan Quinn about half way through the meeting.
Minutes of the Previous Meeting No corrections were noted to the minutes.
President's Report (Noel Rosenberg) We're having a con. We think we're having fun.
As per the directive given at the December Corporate meeting I will announce the location of the next Corporate Meeting. The February Meeting will be held at the home of Buzz Harris. Details will follow later in MENTOR.
EBoard Report(Noel Rosenberg) No Report.
Vice President's Report (Cris Shuldiner) We're in the middle of a Con. I'm wiped.
Grant Committee (Cris Shuldiner) We're considering one pending grant from MassFen. This little matter of a Convention got in the way; we hope to have a decision soon.
Treasurer's Report (Skip Morris) No Report.
Budget Committee (Skip Morris) Ditto.
Clerk's Report (Merv) Pretty much the standard -- everyone, including guests, please sign in on the sheet being handed around; all motions to be submitted to the EBoard in writing in advance per tradition and Corporate Policy, and Reports are to be submitted in writing or suffer transcription from the phonographic memory of the Clerk. New Memberships to the Corporation are $14.00 at the end of this meeting.
ARISIA '00 (Elka Tovah Menkes for Paul Selkirk) We had a con. It was good. Gripe Session is over. Let me get back to my conversation.
ARISIA '00 Treasury (Phi) Money came in. Money went out. It was a con. Approximate warm body count 1891 persons in attendance at the con.
ARISIA '01 (Elka Tovah Menkes) We will have a con. It will be great. I still need plenty of help.
Corporate Inventory Control (Carsten Turner) We have STUFF. Lots of it is here, I'm in the middle of getting it all back to Storage. There may or may not have been a Convention in the meantime. Will be talking to Division and Department Heads in the future to sort stuff that is useful for the Con vs. what is not useful. We're in the process of Self-Improvement. We're still working on Cloning Merv, so we don't wear out his back too soon.
Corporate Sales This position within the Corporation is open and we are actively seeking a volunteer to take charge of Corporate Sales. If you are interested, please contact the EBoard.
Corporate SysAdmin (Cris Shuldiner) We had good websites this year. Thanks to Merv who maintained the STAFF WebSite, to Ben Levy who took care of the Corporate Site, and much thanks to Elka for getting us just the right shade of Blue for the 'Pages.
Long Range Planning Committee (Paul Selkirk, Chair) No Report.
Records Task Force (Ben Levy, Chair) Not Present / No Report.
Survey Committee (Noel Rosenberg for Ben Levy) Surveys have been published, and are here; be sure to fill one out.
Old Business (Editor's Note: The Clerk strongly objects to the following Motion for the following reasons: 1) it is properly New Business; 2) a former Clerk and Vice President of the Corporation who shall not remain nameless (GLEN) decided to have a little fun and make his own additions to the Schedule of Topics (often mistaken for an Official Agenda) while the Clerk was called away from working on it from the Computer in ARISIA '00 Operations. When the Clerk raised an Objection to Consideration, he was ruled Out of Order. For what it's worth, the Clerk acknowledges his error in not proofing the Schedule of Topics before printing.)
MOVED to grant all Convention Chairpersons ("Conchairs") the official task of Troublemaking at all future ARISIA Conventions.
POINT OF ORDER: it was asked to clarify when the "current" convention ends. The Membership wishes to discuss this, offering as possibilities the "official" closing time of 6:00 PM Sunday of the convention; the conclusion of the Dead Dog Party, the conclusion of the Debrief, and the closing of the Books for the Convention.
In light of the imminent discussion, the Chair MOVES TO TABLE. Motion to Table CARRIES.
The Chair recognizes for the Record that with the repeal from the Bylaws of the Red Shirt Class, the Motion on the Table to transfer Carsten Turner to General Membership is Moot; and whereas Carsten Turner has attended one meeting in the past during his Membership with the Corporation, is automatically granted Voting Rights.
New Business (Submitted by Brendan Quinn) In light of the fact that we now have all of this Tech Equipment as Capital Purchase, it would be a good idea to have a committee to deal with it. It is therefore
MOVED to create a Corporate Technical Equipment Committee to determine and propose how we should maintain, purchase, or rent Committee for Conventions.

Announcements The EBoard is seeking candidates for the ARISIA '02 Convention. There is one candidate under consideration now, we are seeking more.

Minutes of the Impromptu EBoard Meeting 31 August 1999

This impromptu meeting of the ARISIA EBoard occurred without proper notice to all EBoard Members. Therefore, the actions of this EBoard meeting need to be ratified at the next regularly scheduled meeting of the ARISIA EBoard.

This meeting of the EBoard was called to order at 10:00 PM on Sunday, 16 January 2000 at Legal Seafoods Restaurant in Boston, MA. The EBoard promptly closed the meeting to meet in Executive Session. The EBoard then exercised its prerogative to seal the minutes of the meeting, with the exception of the Bibliography, enumerated below. The EBoard meeting was adjourned at 11:30 PM.

Directions to the February Corporate Meeting

137 Franklin St.
Arlington, MA

By PUBLIC TRANSIT:
Go to either the Alewife or Harvard Square T stops. From Harvard Square, take the 77 bus from the upper level toward Arlington Heights. From Alewife, take the 79 bus to Arlington Heights or the 350 bus toward Burlington.
No matter which bus you take, the buses will go up Massachusetts Avenue into Arlington, and you should ask the bus driver to let you off at the Franklin Street stop. Franklin Street intersects Mass Ave. at a large brick firehouse and a Wild Women Outfitters store. Turn right onto Franklin and walk down this winding street about 3 blocks. My house is a two-family on the right-hand side of the street. The address is #137 (Please note that it is NOT #137A, which is my landlord, upstairs), and my place in on the first floor.

By ONE OF THOSE CAR THINGIES:
One can take Route 93, Route 2, or Route 3 until they intersect Route 60 (this works, I think, from either south or north). Mass. Ave. also works.
>From 93, take Route 60 West. Pass through lovely, picturesque (well, ok, not so lovely & picturesque) Medford Center and continue through two traffic circles until you enter Arlington (there is a sign at the town line). Once in Arlington, you will want to look for a white picket fence on your left about 2 blocks or less into the town. Take the first possible left right after this fence -- this is Jean Street. Jean St. is one block long and dead-ends into Franklin Street. My house is #137 Franklin and is almost right at the intersection of these two roads. There is plenty of free on-street parking. Please be sure to ring the bell for #137 & not #137-A (our landlord lives upstairs).
>From Route 3, follow Route 3 until you are just short of Arlington Center, and then turn on to Route 60 East (see the signs). Follow Route 60 East about 3 blocks until you come to a right-hand turn onto Jean Street. From there, see the directions above under "From 93" to get to my front door.
>From Route 2, turn on to Route 60 East and follow the directions above under "From Route 3".
>From Mass. Ave., simply turn on to Franklin Street at the intersection of Franklin and Mass. Ave. quite close to Arlington Center (large brick fire house sits at this intersection), and go down the street about 3 blocks to find my house. See directions under the "bus" section above for the specific house #, etc.

By TELEPORTATION:
Please arrange to appear in the living room or dining room somewhere out of the likely traffic pattern. Otherwise your entry may a) cause two solids to occupy the same space at the same time -- very messy, or b) land you in the shower with myself or my roommate, which should *really* be arranged in advance, if you please...

There are two cats in the house in case anyone is allergic -- one will be very forward & social while the other will probably make herself invisible and hide in some far corner while there are ALIENS in the house!
